What is the National Honor Society and how do I apply?

National Honor Society (NHS) is a national organization that recognizes students based on the four pillars of Service, Leadership, Character, and Scholarship.  To be eligible for membership, a junior or senior must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.7 and display excellence in leadership, character, and service. Use this Document to learn about the qualifications for membership in NHS. 

If selected as a member of NHS, each student will continue to give back to the community through service hours. The requirement is 8 hours per semester. 4 of these hours must be toward Rolling Meadows and be approved by a NHS sponsor or Executive Board member. The other 12 hours can be from any other service event in the school or community. 

NOTE: NHS is NOT associated with National Society of High School Scholars. You may be contacted by this organization by mail and asked to pay $75 to join. Rolling Meadows's NHS is not affiliated with this group and your decision to join is not connected to your acceptance in our organization.

  • Application Requirements

    • Submission of application before Friday, September 22nd, 2022 at midnight

    • Your cumulative GPA must be at least 3.7 (weighted or unweighted)

    • You have the required recommendations from teachers, coaches, sponsors, or mentors to verify the information in your application

    • You have done a minimum of 10 hours of community service during your high school years

      • Can be done for the school, at your church, or in your community in general

      • If you have no service hours currently, use the rest of the summer and the first month of school to obtain those hours.
